REMOTE BACKUP SERVICES FAQs
Unfortunately, viruses spread, hard drives fail, disasters happen, and human error is inevitable. Even theft or intentional sabotage of irreplaceable data by a disgruntled employee is extremely common. So, the question becomes not IF you have a significant data loss, but WHEN you have a significant data loss. Here are the answers
to the most frequently asked questions:
HOW IT WORKS:
According to the schedule you established, your system will call in to our system. The data will be encrypted and compressed, then transmitted to our secure data storage vaults. The client initiates all connections. At no time does Easy Online Backup perform an inbound connection to your system.
The service will run automatically and work seamlessly in the background. Once the initial backup is complete your nightly backup is much more efficient and significantly smaller than a tape-based process.
REMOTE STORAGE:
The data is maintained in both a primary data center and a secondary remote data center. The added safeguard of backing up to two (2) separate facilities ensures the data is safe in the unlikely event that a backup facility is affected by an emergency. The data center is Sarasota, FL.
PROFESSIONAL MONITORING:

Easy Online Backup Client software monitors your backup and retrievals 24/7 from our operations center. With extensive error checking we can initiate corrective measures immediately to insure our transfers run smoothly, on schedule, and without inconvenience.

FULLY AUTOMATED:

Automating the backup procedure insures that this most important of mundane tasks gets done. Human error from mistakes or simply forgetting puts your business at grave risk.

How is Easy Online Backup different from other backup services?
We offer multiple solutions. We get to know our clients and assign an account manager and technician to each one. Our clients tell us our approach to service is what really makes Easy Online Backup unique.

How does the reliability compare with that of tape backups?
No comparison. Our backup service is much more reliable than tape backups. We have clients who have run our service for sometime now without ever changing their configuration and without ever missing a backup. We will put our track record up against any tape backup system.

A major risk of tape systems is that even when all indicators point to successful backups, the restores fail. Secondly, most companies using tape systems don't employ a secondary fail-safe system. Our system has redundancy built in.

Can I still use my tape system?
Yes. It is not necessary but if you wish a client may continue to run their tape backups, but no longer needs to transport their tapes off site. Redundancy is the key to data security… you can never have too many backups.

What type of connection do I need?
You need a reliable, dedicated Internet connection. This connection could be 56K, ISDN, cable modem, DSL, T1 or T3. The faster your connection, the more efficiently your backups will run.

What if I have a transmission or connection failure during the backup?
If a transmission is interrupted in the middle of a backup, the MB software will continue to retry until a connection can be re-established, then continue the backup where it was interrupted.

What operating systems are supported?
The following systems are supported natively: WinNT4.0/2000/2003; Win 98/ XP, other operating systems can be backed up via network-mapped drives or NSF-mounted volumes.

What if my computer is destroyed and the operating system on the new one is different?
Because Easy Online Backup stores your backups in a universal data format, you will be able to restore to any system on any platform.

Why Backup?
Most small businesses put their lives on the line every night and don't realize it. With businesses depending more and more on the data stored in their computers, proper backups are becoming much more critical. Remote Backups accomplish several essential steps that are often overlooked or done improperly by other backup software - especially in the regular non-automated backup systems.

Why offsite back-ups?
This is where almost every business makes its biggest mistake. Even if you do everything perfectly, your backups are of little use if your building burns, or if you are unable to physically recover your tapes from the premises. Most small companies that perform backups leave the tapes in the building with the computer, where they can be destroyed right along with the computer. Of course, you can see that this would be a problem in a fire or an earthquake. But there are other problems.

The World Trade Center attack is a good example. Even businesses that were doing backups and had good, undamaged tapes in the building had to shut down. Many went out of business simply because they couldn't get their data. So, they couldn't continue their business. Remote Backup solves this problem by automatically storing this valuable data at more than one site. So, a business can be

back up and running with new computers and their latest data no matter what catastrophe happens.

Experts agree -
Take your current tape or disk backup procedure one step further to insure that your business can continue tomorrow. Hewlet Packard states that "... the only safe format... is computer to computer, to an offsite location"

How do I get my data back?
Online or Physical Retrieval - Our solution is integrated with Windows Explorer. Users just have to click on "My Backup", locate the file and then select restore. Then the file is restored. It's that simple. The big advantage is that users don't need to call their IT professional to get the file back. This lowers the cost of ownership and empowers the clients to do their own work.

If recovering from a disaster Easy Online Backup can rapidly restore your critical data over our secure network connection at your command. If time is of the essence we can ship a your data straight to you (this type of delivery would incur a separate charge).

What about security?

We use the same technology to encrypt your data transfer as does the CIA, the FBI & the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security. Not only does it repel network attacks, but also it allows us to receive and transmit your data without alteration.
